About the Artist

Raised in Southern California, Courtney Raney began painting at an early age and has continued exploring her style throughout her career. Inspired by music and her contemporary Los Angeles surroundings, her paintings evolve with the changing times. They evoke strong reactions with the bold colors and carefree brushstrokes, while keeping a sense of ambiguity for the viewer to discover their own personal meanings and significance.

"I think it's important for people to have their own reactions and feelings rather than worry about what my emotional state was when I painted something. That way I always get to look at my work from a different angle...from their perspective, and that keeps it interesting for me."

With heavy influences in early 20th Century art, her style reflects such movements as Fauvism, Surrealism, Expressionism, and other figurative forms of Abstraction. With a Fine Arts major in college, Courtney analyzed and developed her own version of Modernism in the current art world hoping to bring originality and a valid contribution to the existing art of her city.

"I love Los Angeles and I'm incredibly thrilled that it has become such an influential focal point in the art world today."
